Nicolas Poffley

Active in: Hyperloop

I finished my Degree Apprenticeship with PwC in Computer Science in 2023 before joining CERN as an ORIGIN graduate. My thesis was AI-focused, using autoencoders, transformers and other anomaly detection methods to detect DNA translocation events in nanopores.

At PwC I worked in the AI team where I used simulation to optimise business processes. Here, I learned full-stack web development by creating a client-facing web interface to run uniquely customised ‘Digital Twin’ simulation models. I did this with ReactJS, NodeJS and SQL, deployed to the Google Cloud using Kubernetes. The simulations were made with a Java-based simulation tool.

At CERN I am a full stack developer for Hyperloop, the Run 3 analysis train system for Alice which allows analysers to utilise Grid and analysis facilities for their analysis. Hyperloop is responsible for the submission of around 100 PB of data for analysis per month. My main objectives are to improve the analysis experience and efficiency while supporting day-to-day users.

I love to play tennis, hike, and explore new places in my spare time.
